Survivor Story: Sonia Wellis Frenkel
Sonia Wellis Frenkel was born in 1923. She is a survivor of the Holocaust. Most of her family died, except for a brother and a sister. She lived in a ghetto and taught kindergarten. She didn't have much food and was always cold. She also survived the liquidation of the ghetto she lived in. She snuck out of her new ghetto camp because they threatened to kill everyone. When the Holocaust was over, she had three kids. She died at the age of 67 because she was very sick.
Sonia Wellis Frenkel, a Holocaust survivor. She was an amazing woman. Her last wish was for her daughter to continue educating children about the Holocaust. Not the bad things, but the happy things. She believed that children shouldn't only learn about the bad things.

Adolf Hitler, the leader of the Nazis, was a horrible man. He was so horrible, that when the Holocaust finally ended, so many people wanted to kill him and his wife that they ended up killing themselves to prove that they would NEVER surrender. He believed that all Jews were bad. Also, if you didn't have blond hair and blue eyes, he would kill you.
This is a group of kids standing inside the ghetto that they live in. They look sad. Many of them were probably ill and starving because of the circumstances. Some of them might have been orphans because their parents were killed by Hitler or a disease.
Paper Clips Movie
In the movie Paper Clips, I learned why the paper clip is a symbol of the Holocaust. It's because Jews were forced to wear paperclips on their shirts, along with The Star Of David. Many people from all over the the globe sent a school in Tennessee paperclips to represent all the Jews that were killed in the Holocaust. Their goal was to get 6 million, but they ended up getting over 30 million! The school bought a real rail cart that was used to transport Jews to death camps. They couldn't fit all the paper clips in the cart and have people come visit, so they decided to put 11 million in to represent ALL the people that were killed.
Paper clips were used in the Holocaust by Jews to show that they were Jews and belonged in a ghetto. Jews had to wear this along with the Star Of David.
In the movie called Safe Haven: The Warsaw Zoo, I learned about a zoo in Poland that was used as a place that Jews could hide in and hopefully be safe. In they daytime, people would hide in the animal cages and wear animal fur to disguise themselves as animals. In the night, everyone would go into the villa and the basement and sleep. There were 300 people in the zoo, and only two were killed. That's amazing. I also learned that Hitler video taped everything he did, so in the movie they used actual footage of the Holocaust. The Nazis would give the Jews a small piece of bread once a day, and that is all they would get. We learned that the Nazis charged the Polish government for the food they "generously" gave to the Jews. Safe Haven: The Warsaw Zoo Movie
Personal Feelings
I think that the Holocaust was horrible and very unfair. My personal belief is that everybody should be treated equal. It doesn't matter if you are Jewish or Jahovah's Witness. What matters is what you are like as a person. If you are evil and spread hatred, you shouldn't be treated the same as the nice, selfless people on this earth. As long as you are fair and kind (most of the time), you have a place on this earth, and no one should be judged because of what God you believe in or if you don't believe in any God. You are a person and that's all there is to it.
